The Foundation For Orphaned, Abandoned and Disabled African Children. April '08 - #01 | |
|
Greetings to all our friends, sponsors and donors!
Here is a summary of our 2007 activities and upcoming events for 2008.
Last
year we had a very successful fundraiser where we introduced to
the public the concept of 'The face of FOADAC'. At this
second annual fundraising banquet several models competed
and Miss Africa-USA CA, Rachel Temu crowned Ms Grace Haukwa
of Kenyan descent as the first Spokemodel for the orphans at
FOADAC.

HOTPEC Orphanage - Buea.
First point of call was naturally Hotpec in Buea
which is like a host location. The children, and all those working
there as volunteers, were very happy to see me. They had received lots
of clothing, shoes, and school supplies from us back in October and
were anxious to tell me how happy and thankful they were. I spent the
whole day with the children seeing how they have grown as well as
getting lots of information from the moderator. The children sang and
danced with me, while I shared some little gift items that I brought
with me. At hotpec I met with new addition, five month old Kofi.
He was brought in from one of the border towns between Nigeria
and Cameroon by someone who thought he could help take care of the
child but later handed him over to Hotpec and never showed up again. He
is a very happy baby who just needs love and care. His future depends
on people like you and I.

The
management of HOTPEC Orphanage Buea in South West Province of Cameroon
is appreciating you people for the heart of concern towards the orphans
of HOTPEC Orphanage. Last year we received
some money from Ruth Caspa and on the 24th of December, she brought
some foodstuff for Christmas to the orphanage sent by you
people. Indeed we are very grateful for your loving hearts.
We also received some assorted dresses brought by Mme Edith Ngang
sent by you people again. We pray that God will richly bless you
and your entire family for this great support to the work of God
in HOTPEC. Please forgive us for our short comings. Remain blessed women of God.
Beatrice.

Rhema-Grace Orphanage - Ombe My next stop was in a
place called Ombe still in the South West Province. Here I visited
Rhema-Grace Orphanage. The Moderator here is Rev. Mercy Beyang
Batetataw. She told me about her missionary journey that leads to the
creation of this orphanage. She said, 'This is my calling and I have
promised the Lord to do my best no matter how hard it seems.' What
really touched me was the fact that she lives with the children in one
of the rooms, thus she is there all day everyday giving them her full
attention and making sure they are being taken off with the minimal
resources available. There are a lot of babies in this location which
was very heart breaking. There were about ten babies from 3 months old
up to 2 years old. My immediate concern was the sleeping arrangement.
They had a few and very tiny baby cribs that was shared with two babies
and the older toddlers
slept on the floor. I immediately saw their most important need and
went out and bought more baby cribs for them. This made a huge
difference in their wellbeing and was very much appreciated. At the end
of my visit, I assured her that Foadac will continue to support them as
much as we can.
The situation was more serious here at Rhema-Grace Orphanage where I bought them new baby cribs.
Appreciation email from director of Rhema-Grace Orphanage, Rev. Batetataw:

St. Valentines Orphanage
Here
at St. Valentine's Orphanage there were no babies or toddlers.
However, they had very interesting young people from ages ten to
seventeen. They all came from other orphanage locations that were
unidentified at the time. Meet Dora Ojini: She is ten yrs old, in class
7 primary school. She is aware of the death of her father but knows
nothing about her mother. She lived with her aunt who later
brought her here, she had a younger brother who later died. Solomon
Ewuka, about 17yrs old and no accurate information was
provided. He is handicapped but I'm not quite sure what his diagnosis
is, but he seems to need a lot of help, very cheerful guy
though. Isaiah Ode is about 9yrs old in class seven,
Christian Etonong 13yrs old in form 3, and Etienne Etonong 6yrs old.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Benedictine Sisters of Bethany Orphanage - Abangoh, Bamenda. Next
point of call was at the Benedictine Sisters of Bethany Orphanage. This
is located in Abangoh, Bamenda and was the hardest to find. The roads
were very bad. It was the most difficult terrain I have ever had to
maneuver. Rocks, dust, hills, high temperature and
hmidity did not help. Nonetheless I made it to the location which
is quite big with lots of children. This orphanage also had lots of
babies under three years old. It had a lot going on, their new school
had just opened and the children can begin their education right on
campus. They also have to engage in certain task to help their living
conditions, such as processing soya beans for sale and raising pigs as
well. They also have a bakery on site to be more self sufficient. The
main concern here was inadequate lodging and poor nutrition. The kids
have all developed (bow legs) due to malnutrition. I was able to
provide some food items to begin to alleviate some of the main concern.
The children here were also very welcoming and appreciative, they told
me in one of the songs they sang that when I leave they pray that I
would always remember them, this is the point where I literally broke
down with pain knowing their needs were so great and there was not a
whole lot I could. I left this location that day with a very heavy
heart, especially when one of the babies couldn't let go of my hand. He
cried as he asked me to take him along. It was very difficult for me to
put him down and walk away.

Some how, I felt terribly guilty for leaving this little boy behind. |

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I attempted to visit Kai orphanage in Mbengwi but it
was impossible. The roads were very dusty and bad. Transportation was
only available on markets days. There were several other scenarios that
made it impossible at the time. Also I made plans to go to the Nkoaban
Orphanage in Yaoundé, Cameroon but the civil unrest in February made it
impossibe.
My next visits will be to the following locations: Kai Orphanage in Mbengwi Pinyin and Baligham Fongo Tongo in Dshang Santa, Akum
Nkoabang , Yaoundé These are all Charity orphanage locations. Hope
this brings some insight to my most recent outreach mission. Our
challenge now is to set into motion our immediate and long term goals
for these children. Top most will be feeding and accommodation as
usual, education and vocational training for them. Other goals and
initiatives will include healthcare (we need volunteer nurses, doctors,
pharmacists/pharmaceuticals) and sponsorship. Some of the orphanages
have expressed their desire for a sponsorship program in which anybody
can sponsor one or more children in school renewable each school year.
These projects will be our focus for the upcoming fundraiser. By God's
grace we can instill hope in the hopeless.
Yours Sincerely,
Ethel Caspa

Launching F.O.A.D.A.C, a media report
It has become apparent that the need to help orphans in
Africa is more urgent than ever before. With the recent
astronomical increase in HIV infected parents dying from
AIDS, socio-economic hardship and poor health, several African
children have no hope for the future. On that note September
9th was a significant day for the Foundation for Orphaned,
Abandoned and Disabled African Children, F.O.A.D.A.C. On
this day F.O.A.D.A.C. was officially launched with an inaugural
banquet in Baltimore , MD.
During this historic event the Founder/CEO, Ethel Caspa
presented the mission, goals and objectives of the foundation.
Our main purpose is to provide direct support, care and
accommodation to Africa 's most vulnerable children. In
the process, build a strong and dynamic resource to restore
the future of these orphans.
The inaugural banquet was an elegant evening chaired by
Mr. Joe Fon and Dr. Nabila Ndumbe. Other attractions of
the night included a special display of musical talent from
the Caribbean by Carl Warren on the steel drums and Robert
Richardson on the Saxophone. AnitB Etta wowed the audience
with her angelic voice – album to be released early 2007.
An in-house fashion show, gracefully officiated by Mrs.
Hannah Dibonge covered a cross section of African attire
including beach wear for kids, casuals, weddings, funerals
and other occasional outfits. Funds were raised through
a silent auction, sale of African costumes, crafts and arts.
Our appreciation also goes to Ms. Estelle McCormick, this
event’s co-coordinator for pulling it off successfully.

Give hope and restore their future!
